Our debut feature Ron’s Gone Wrong is currently streaming on Disney+. Our second film, That Christmas, based on series of children’s books by writer/director Richard Curtis premiered on Netflix 4 Dec 2024. We are currently in production of our third feature Bad Fairies.
Key Purpose of the job
Locksmith Animation are looking for Layout Artists with experience in CG Feature Animation for Bad Fairies. In this role you will be responsible for creating shots, camera composition and character staging. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Layout, Layout Lead and Director to convey the story through the application of both traditional and CG filmmaking principles.
Responsibilities:
- Working with the Head of Layout & Layout Lead to establish camera position, camera movement and character blocking.
- Working with existing storyboards, recreate and/or enhance story through cinematic layout of shots in sequence.
- Use and knowledge of techniques that are compatible with the rest of the digital film making process. Know how your work will affect other departments, using best practices to ensure clean scenes and smooth delivery to vendor.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5+ years experience as a Layout Artist in Feature Animation
- Experience in character animation, especially comedic blocking and timing
- Excellent Maya skills.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong emphasis on visual storytelling, including composition and staging
- Knowledge of cameras, lenses and cinematography
- Showreel featuring high level animated sequence work - experience with complex flying and action/fight sequences
- A methodical and structured approach to problem solving.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge and experience in Editing
- An understanding of Lighting techniques
- An interest & experience in Photography
